On Sunday, July 26, 2015, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Pi‘ilani Lua will demonstrate Ti leaf lei making and traditional Hawaiian games in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park.
The activity is part of Hana No`eau, the park’s cultural demonstration series which features local residents. Hana No`eau refers “to demonstrating and honoring the traditions of the Hawaiian people."
The series, which began June 1, 2015, has featured other local cultural practitioners including Bolly Helekahi (coconut leaf weaving), Judy Kinzer (hula) and Patti Gomez (feather flowers). The series is funded by the Hawai`i Pacific Parks Association, a non-profit partner of the park.
The weekly demonstrations are offered in Kīpahulu on Sundays or Mondays 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.; and in the Summit on Fridays or Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon. For an updated list of planned events please visit www.nps.gov/hale/planyourvisit/things2do.htm.
