WIND CAVE NATIONAL PARK, SD -To celebrate the 99th birthday of the National Park Service, rangers at Wind Cave National Park are leading an evening hike to the top of Rankin Ridge on Tuesday, August 25.

Participants should meet at the Rankin Ridge Trailhead parking lot at 6 p.m. for this mile-long, moderately strenuous hike to the base of the fire tower. Dress for the weather and bring water, snacks, and a flashlight for this 2-hour activity.

"This hike is a great way to celebrate the 99th birthday of the National Park Service," said park superintendent Vidal Dávila. "National parks are places to explore, experience, and cherish. The evening views from this, the highest point in the park, are fantastic and this will be a great way to get out kick-off our centennial celebration."

Rankin Ridge is located off Highway 87 approximately 20 minutes north of the park visitor center. For more information, call the park at 605-745-4600.
