National Parks And Monuments' Fee-Free For Founders' Day

National Park Service units throughout the country will waive entry fees on Tuesday, Aug. 25, in celebration of the National Park Service turning 99.

The National Park Service was established by congress through the Organic Act of 1916. According to its mission statement, the National Park Service "preserves unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations".

In the Verde Valley, the National Park Service will waive entry fees at both Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot National Monuments. Additionally, Western National Parks Association will offer a 15% discount off all items in the visitor center bookstores, including Native American crafts made by Hopi, Zuni, Acoma, Yavapai, Apache, and Tohono O'odham artisans.

The National Park Service celebrates its 100th Anniversary in 2016. Over 20,000 National Park Service employees care for America's 408 national parks and monuments and create close-to-home recreational and cultural opportunities.

Montezuma Castle is located at 2800 Montezuma Castle Road in Camp Verde, Arizona. Tuzigoot is located at 25 West Tuzigoot Road in Clarkdale.
