Commemorate Labor Day Weekend with a Special Living History Event

SAVANNAH -Travel back to late summer 1861 as Fort Pulaski National Monument hosts a special living history event. Living historians will garrison a Confederate Fort Pulaski on Saturday and Sunday, September 5 & 6 and will recreate many aspects of daily life at the Civil War post. A variety of programs will be offered throughout the weekend allowing visitors the chance to learn about Fort Pulaski as preparations were made to defend Savannah and the young confederacy.

The fort will be garrisoned by living historians portraying the 1st Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry. This regiment was composed of pre-war volunteer militia companies of the Savannah area. Mustered into service in May or June of 1861, the regiment garrisoned the fort until April 1862. Join us as the men of Fort Pulaski prepare for the war. You'll bear witness such activities like the mounting of the guard, bayonet drill, musket firings, cannon firings, and more.
