Recreation Areas Begin Reopening

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 31, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Coulee Dam, WA -- At 12:00pm, September 1st, 2015, Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area will begin reopening some campgrounds, boat ramps, and day-use areas in the North District of the park. These actions are due to a reduction of wildfire activity in the northeast portion of the park. Some areas will remain closed due to their proximity to the Carpenter Road Fire and the Kettle Complex. The National Park Service has continued these closures to ensure the highest level of safety for visitors and employees.

Under the authority granted to the superintendent under 36 Code of Federal Regulations 1.5 (a)(1), campgrounds, boat ramps, and day-use areas in the following locations are reopened as of 12:00pm, Tuesday, September 1st, 2015: Porcupine Bay, Enterprise, Gifford, Cloverleaf, Daisy, Bradbury Beach, Colville Flats, Kettle Falls, Marcus Island, Evans, Summer Island, North Gorge, and China Bend. Though wildfire conditions have improved in the area, fire danger remains high and the fire ban on open flames remains in effect. Shifting winds may also bring heavy smoke and poor air quality.

The following campgrounds, boat ramps, and day-use areas will remain closed until conditions improve for visitor safety: Camp Na-Bor-Lee, Hunters, Snag Cove, Napoleon Bridge, Kettle River, Kamloops Island, Haag Cove, and French Rocks.
