Road Work at Dune Climb and Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 11, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (National Lakeshore) announces that pavement work is underway for September through early October 2015 at the Dune Climb parking lot and along the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. The work will involve the use of heavy equipment and visitors may experience temporary closures and traffic delays.

Work at the Dune Climb will be limited to the entrance road and parking lot. During this work, access to the Dune Climb will remain open, but alternate parking areas will be designated. Work at the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive will require the closure of sections of the drive for periods of time, and then the entire drive will be closed for several days so work on the entrance road and southern half can be completed. A detailed schedule of closures cannot be determined due to changing weather conditions. The Scenic Drive’s full closure is planned to take place between October 1 and October 9. Check the park’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/sbdnl for the most recent updates. Closure information will also be posted on the park’s website at www.nps.gov/slbe.
