Entrance Fee Increase Begins October 1
Tonto National Monument will increase its entrance fee for visitors on October 1st to help fund important maintenance and improvement projects within the park.
"This increase in fees will allow us to continue to protect, preserve and share the special cultural and natural resources at Tonto National Monument with current visitors and future generations.The entrance fee has been $3 per person since 2001," said Duane Hubbard, park superintendent. "After carefully considering the impact of a fee increase on visitors and community members, we decided that this is the right course of action to improve facilities and services important to visitors."
Entrance fees
support a wide range of projects that improve the park and visitor experiences. Projects that were funded by fee revenue include trail rehabilitation, development of an audio visual exhibit at the visitor center, upgrades to park signage, and
stabilization of archeological sites. Additional fee revenue will allow the park to maintain and improve facilities and services.
The National Park Service conducted a nationwide review of entrance fees in 2014. Tonto National Monument
launched a civic engagement campaign that included conversations with local officials and neighboring communities, as well as postings on its website and social media. While the majority of comments supported an increase, some felt
the original proposal was too much. Therefore, the entrance fee was raised to $5 instead of the originally proposed $7.
