OCTOBER EVENTS AT LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA
BOULDER CITY, NEV. -The following events are happening at Lake Mead National Recreation Area during the month of October.
Southern Nevada Fire Restrictions Lifted, Oct 2
Seasonal fire restrictions on public lands in Southern Nevada managed by the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, National Park Service, Nevada Division of Forestry, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and U.S. Forest Service will be lifted Oct. 2.
ABA South Team Classic Fishing Tournament, Oct 2-3
Around 250 anglers will compete in the American Bass Association South Team Classic Fishing Tournament at Callville Bay Oct. 2-3. Visit www.americanbass.co for more information on this permitted event.
C.A.S.T. for Kids, Oct 3
Nearly 40 children with disabilities will have the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing at the annual C.A.S.T. for Kids event at Las Vegas Boat Harbor Oct. 3. Silverman 70.3 IRONMAN Triathlon, Oct 4
Around 1,500 athletes from around the world will race through Lake Mead National Recreation Area Oct. 4 during the Silverman 70.3 IRONMAN Triathlon. The race begins at 7 a.m. with a 1.2-mile swim at Boulder Beach. Athletes will then transition to their bicycles where they will continue through 40 miles of the park, along scenic Lakeshore and Northshore roads. Cyclists will make a U-turn at mile marker 16.5 on Northshore to head back toward Lakeshore and exit the park at Lake Mead Parkway. The remainder of the race, including a 13.1-mile run, will conclude in Henderson. During the race, the bicycle course in Lake Mead National Recreation Area is an open road. Please use caution when driving alongside cyclists. Share the road, and do not pass in no passing zones. Cyclists are reminded that they must bike in single file on the roadways. Cycling abreast is not permitted with Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The South Access Road at the end of Frontage Road near Boulder Beach will be closed the afternoon of Oct. 3 for set up. Cottonwood Cove Beach Cleanup and Eco-Dive, Oct 10
Forever Resorts and the National Park Service are co-sponsoring a beach cleanup and eco-dive at Cottonwood Cove Oct. 10. Individuals, families and groups are welcome. Divers must show proof of current diving certification at registration. Sign-in begins at 8 a.m. with the clean-up event and dive brief beginning at 9 a.m. All volunteers will return by noon for a lunch sponsored by Forever Resorts and prize drawing. Willow Beach Eco-Dive, Paddle Craft and Beach Cleanup, Oct 17
Forever Resorts, the Lower Colorado River Water Trail Alliance and the National Park Service are co-sponsoring a cleanup and eco-dive at Willow Beach Oct. 17. Individuals, families and groups are welcome to assist with the beach cleanup and paddle craft shoreline cleanup. Divers must show proof of current diving certification at registration. Why are bats scary?Join a ranger at the Boulder Beach Amphitheater at 5 p.m. Oct. 17 to explore bat myths and learn how bats benefit people. An added bonus will be watching the sun set over the lake.

Get Outdoors Nevada Day, Oct 24
Join rangers at Sunset Park 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 24 during Get Outdoors Nevada Day. Learn about a variety of ways to have fun in the sun in Southern Nevada. Tour the Explore! Mobile Exhibit, which showcases the striking scenery of public lands, and participate in family-friendly outdoor activities throughout the day. Free America the Beautiful annual passes will be distributed to 4th graders as part of the Every Kid in a Park national program. Maps and brochures of Southern Nevada's public lands will also be available.
BBSC Pumpkinman Triathlon, Oct 24
Around 1,300 athletes will race through Lake Mead National Recreation Area during the BBSC Pumpkinman Triathlon Oct. 24. The swim portion of the race takes place at Boulder Beach. Then, athletes will bike along Lakeshore Road and Northshore Road before transitioning onto the River Mountains Loop Trail at the Historic Railroad Trail parking lot. The race will conclude in Boulder City. Visitors to Lake Mead may experience delays. During the race, the bicycle course in Lake Mead National Recreation Area is an open road. Ranger Program: All Day Halloween Fun, Oct 31
Join rangers from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Lake Mead Visitor Center for an arts and crafts party. Guests can make desert animal masks and decorate Dia de los Muertos sugar skulls. Call 702-293-8990 for more information.
