In celebration of the upcoming National Park Service centennial, the Obed Wild and Scenic River, in partnership with bowyer Travis Gosnell, announces another primitive bow workshop on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at the Obed visitor center.
The program begins at 5 p.m. ET and will conclude by 7 p.m. Travis Gosnell built his first bow as a child, and has always enjoyed a good challenge. He says, “At times, it (bow building) is a kind of therapy from the rat race of life." Travis has his bachelor’s degree in history and political science from TTU, and has worked a variety of jobs before becoming a teacher at Wartburg Middle School. He enjoys hunting, fishing, American Indian archaeology, and World War ll history. Travis is now excited about the opportunity to pass on his passion for primitive weaponry to others. Visitors will have the opportunity to help in the process of building a primitive bow, and to ask Travis questions about primitive weaponry.
Participants still have time to put some work in on the nearly finished bow and its sister bow. Those in attendance will also get to discuss the next chapter in these workshops and voice their opinion about what they would like to see in the future. This wheelchair accessible program requires no reservation and is free to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program.
