Seeking public comments for Wilderness Stewardship Plan

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 3, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Mount Rainier National Park is initiating a Wilderness Stewardship Plan (WSP) to guide the management of visitor use and enjoyment of the Mount Rainier Wilderness, while preserving its character. The proposed WSP and its effects will be analyzed in an environmental impact statement (EIS). Public involvement is crucial to the WSP/EIS planning process.

Public scoping meetings for the Mount Rainier Wilderness Stewardship Plan and Environmental Impact Statement will be held November 16th through November 19th in Seattle, Tacoma, Ashford, and Buckley, Washington. A federal register notice of intent to prepare an EIS is also anticipated in mid-November, and will initiate a 60-day public scoping period. The announcement of the scoping period and a brochure containing more details may be found online at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/morawild.

If you have questions about the Mount Rainier National Park planning process and the proposed Wilderness Stewardship Plan, contact Karen Thompson, Environmental Coordinator at 360-569-6507 or Superintendent Randy King at 360-569-6501.
