Monthly Stargazing Program at National Lakeshore

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 25, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore: Join members of the Chicago Astronomical Society on the first Saturday night of each month to get a closer look at the evening sky over Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. This month's program meets on December 5, at 5:00 p.m. at the national lakeshore's Kemil Beach parking area. In December, the Milky Way galaxy crosses the night sky from east to west overhead. Skies permitting, expect to see the Pleides star cluster, the double cluster in Perseus, and the Andromeda Galaxy. Uranus and Neptune are also visible in the southern sky. The society will bring their telescopes so visitors can get a closer look at the night sky, but feel free to bring a pair of binoculars from home, too. Please be sure to dress for the weather as there is no building or restrooms to warm up.

The Kemil Beach parking lot is located at 27 N. East State Park Road, Chesterton, Indiana. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, call 219-395-1882 or check the park's website at www.nps.gov/indu
