Temporary Water Unavailability in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Dec. 8, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Over the next two weeks, water pumps will be replaced in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā NP. During the repairs, there will be very limited water available for drinking. Visitors should plan on bringing their own drinking water. Because the district rest rooms will also be closed, portable toilets will be made available.

During 2015, numerous catastrophic failures in the district’s water system caused intermittent water unavailability. The new pumps are one component of a series of repairs and equipment

replacements to be implemented over the next two years and designed to improve the water delivery system.
