INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: This year Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is celebrating its 50thbirthday while the National Park Service turns 100 years old. Help celebrate our shared heritage at a special quilting program, "A Patchwork of History Handed Down," onSaturday, Feb. 27, from 2:00 pm -3:00 pm, at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center.
Please join program host, Peggy Whitlow, who will share her family's heritage through the traditional craft of quilt-making. The Whitlow family has been making quilts going all the way back to Peggy's great, great grandmother, who was a slave. Peggy's mother, the late Mamie Davis, affectionately known as "The Quilt Lady," often shared her family's history through quilting programs and a video that she produced.
During this one-hour program, Peggy will display some of her favorite quilts and give tips on quilting. She also invites others to bring a quilt to the program so they can briefly share their own family's heritage after her presentation.
Meet at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center located at 1215 N. State Road 49 in Porter, Indiana. For more information about this program or other activities at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, contact the information desk at 219-395-1882 or check the park's website at www.nps.gov/indu.
