From February 16 to 21, Point Reyes National Seashore is partnering with the Conservation Corps North Bay to host a free tire recycling collection. The collection will take place at two locations:
Drakes Beach Parking Lot
February 16-18, 9 am-2 pm
Bear Valley Trailhead Parking Lot
February 19-21, 9 am-2 pm
The tire recycling collection is limited to the following:
* No more than 9 tires per trip;
* No tires over 46 inches in diameter;
* No tires from tire businesses; and
* No bicycle tires.
Old tires left outdoors can pose a fire threat and provide a breeding ground for mosquitoes. One waste tire with accumulated water inside it can produce thousands of mosquitoes each year. This event can help reduce fire hazards and prevent mosquito breeding that could potentially transmit West Nile virus, encephalitis and other diseases.
Collected tires will either be reused or recycled into crumb rubber, which can be used as an ingredient to produce new tires, flooring material, asphalt, and engineering products for road construction or erosion control.

About Conservation Corps North Bay Tire Recycling Program
Conservation Corps North Bay (CCNB) services various organizations in Marin and Sonoma counties to promote tire recycling, as well as removes illegally dumped tires from public land. CCNB works on special tire recycling projects including Tire Amnesty Days and illegally dumped tire cleanups throughout the State.
