BOULDER CITY, Nevada -The National Park Service has issued a prospectus soliciting for proposals in response to a 15-year business opportunity to operate a full-service marina at Katherine Landing on Lake Mohave within Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
The National Park Service opened a similar opportunity in 2014 but received no bids, in part because of the uncertainty related to the cost required to purchase assets from the existing concessioner. The park service has since settled with the existing concessioner and has invested nearly $10 million in the operation, substantially reducing the total initial investment requirements for a new operator.
Katherine Landing is the second most popular area within Lake Mead National Recreation Area. In 2015, more than 1.3 million people visited the developed area.
The key services include the operation of the marina, including moorage, boat rentals, food and beverage, retail, fuel, camping and related services.
