Drowning on Buffalo National River

On the afternoon of June 12, 2016, a canoe overturned near the Hasty access in the Upper District of Buffalo National River. One of the occupants of the canoe, Kristen B. Johnson, of Conway, AR was seen to go underwater but never re-surfaced. Personnel from National Park Service, Newton County Sheriff's Office, North Arkansas Regional Ambulance Service, Harrison Swift water Rescue Team, and the Searcy County Dive Team, responded to the incident. Johnson's body was recovered later in the evening near the site of the overturned canoe.
