An Evening of Music with the Ambassadors

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 1, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

On Saturday, July 16, 2016, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park invites the public to attend An Evening of Music with the Ambassadors.

Based in Shepherdstown, WV, the Ambassadors will perform a mixture of traditional and contemporary gospel as well as African American spirituals. The program will take place at 6:00 PM on the grounds of Mather Training Center, at the former Storer College campus. Founded in 1867, Storer College grew from a one-room school for freedmen to a full-fledged degree-granting college. For 88 years, Storer provided former slaves, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the education, the training, and perhaps most importantly, the sense of worth needed to be a success. In 2017, Harpers Ferry National Historical Park will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Storer College with a year-long commemoration.

Join us for this evening of free music by bringing along a picnic, your family, and friends. In case of inclement weather, the concert will take place in the Curtis-Freewill Baptist Church, located on the grounds of the Mather Training Center, Harpers Ferry.
