Blue Heron Wastewater System Improvement Project beginning July 10

Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area will begin preliminary ground work for an improved wastewater system located at Blue Heron (Mine-18), in Stearns, Kentucky. Work will take place beginning Sunday, July 10, and conclude Friday, July 15.

Subsurface exploration and data collection will be used to determine an improved wastewater system design. National Park Service staff will be on-site with a contractor at the existing wastewater leach field area to survey and collect soil samples by means of geotechnical drilling.

All facilities at Blue Heron will remain open during this time.
