Chilkoot Trail Canyon City Ruins Bridge Closure

Skagway -Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park has issued a notice that the bridge between Canyon City campsite and Canyon City Ruins spur trail will be closed immediately. A cable has broken on the suspension bridge, making the bridge unsafe for visitors.

This closure does not impact hikers' ability to complete the Chilkoot Trail. The bridge is a trailhead of a 1 mile spur trail leading into archeology sites in Canyon City, a large canvas tent town during the gold rush.

An NPS maintenance crew is scheduled to evaluate the bridge this Tuesday, July 12. More information will be released shortly thereafter.

The National Park Service regrets the inconvenience this closure causes for hikers who made this trek a significant part of the destination to Alaska and Canada. Hikers may contact the Trail Center in Skagway at 907-983-9234 with any further questions.
