Homicide investigation underway at Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Homicide investigation underway at Lake Mead

Special Agents with the NPS Investigative Services Branch (ISB), US Park Rangers, and the Homicide Section of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) are investigative a homicide in Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

On July 18 at 8 am, rangers responded to the desert area near the Special Events Beach at Boulder Basin immediately after receiving reports of a possible deceased female. Rangers located the victim and observed obvious signs of trauma to her body. The National Park Service (NPS) requested the LVMPD Homicide Section to assist with the investigation.

Investigators determined the deceased woman had injuries that appeared to be consistent with being the victim of a homicide. The motive behind the homicide remains unknown; however, this appears to be an isolated incident.

This is an active investigation with no further details available at this time. The victim's identity, as well as cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.
