August Public Programs at War in the Pacific National Historical Park

August 6, Saturday: 2 pm at Apaca Point - "From the Marines' Perspective: An In-Water Hike at Apaca Point in Agat"

Join park rangers for this one-of-a-kind in-water guided hike of Apaca Point.This hike, through waist deep water, will explore the July 21, 1944, invasion of Guam from the Marines' perspective.Look and learn the challenges U.S. soldiers faced as they were coming ashore during the invasion. Please bring reef shoes and be prepared to walk in water 3-4 feet deep. (2 hours)

Aug. 13, Saturday: 9 am at Ga'an Point - "Keep Guam Beautiful"

This community cleanup will take place at Ga'an Point - a former WWII invasion beach. Cold water in coolers, protective gloves, and trash bags will be provided. Please bring refillable water bottles and wear closed-toe shoes, hats, and sunscreen. For more information, please contact e-mail us.

Aug. 18, Thursday -"War in the Pacific National Historical Park's 38th Anniversary"

In celebration of the park's 38th birthday, the park will release a daily post on the park's Facebook page for the 38 days leading up to the anniversary.Check every day to find out facts about Guam's only national park.

Aug. 20, Saturday: 10 am at Fonte Plateau -"Fonte Plateau Revealed:The Beginning of the End of the Battle of Guam"

Join a park ranger at Fonte Plateau (on Route 6) to discover how this location was a turning point in the battle to liberate Guam.This program also includes a tour of the underground Japanese communications bunker. (45 minutes)

Aug. 20, Saturday: 2 pm at Visitor Center - "History Revealed"

Join us for a presentation on the Tinian invasion, the third invasion of the Mariana Islandsin the summer of 1944. (1 hour)

Aug. 21, Sunday: 2 pm at Visitor Center - "Science Sunday"

Science Sunday features current research projects happening right here in Guam and the Micronesian region.For more information on this event, call 333-4050 or email gureefmonitoring@gmail.com. (1 hour)

Aug. 25, Thursday: 7 pm at Visitor Center -"A Night at the Museum -The History of the National Park Service."

Celebrate the National Park System's 100th anniversary with a Night at the Museum.Come to the T Stell Newman Visitor Center where park rangers will explore the rich history and the future of the National Parks in the United States.Learn why some have described the national parks as America's Best Idea. (1 hour)
