Hey kids! On Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, celebrate the 100th birthday of the National Park Service by becoming a Junior Ranger. All participants completing the Junior Ranger booklet receive a Junior Ranger badge, special 100th Anniversary badge and a Junior Ranger patch. A guided hike is scheduled for 10 am-1230 pm (weather permitting). Participants will explore an elk trail and visit the scientific quarry to see how fossils are scientifically excavated. Bring water, snack, insect repellant and a hat. Long pants are recommended. No need to make a reservation, just inquire at the visitor center information desk upon arrival.
Additional activities are scheduled throughout the day in celebration of the 100th birthday of the National Park Service. The fossil quarry is open from 11 am-4 pm (weather permitting) and all visitors to the monument are invited to interact with Geoscientist, Carson Hedberg as she uncovers 52 million year old fossils. Additional activities include Animal Adaptations Featuring Skull and Body Parts, The Fossilization Game, National Park Matching Game, and Then and Now Matching Game.
