U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will team with the National Park Service (NPS) to welcome 16 new U.S. citizens on Saturday, during an outdoor ceremony at Tumacacori National Historical Park.
U.S. District Judge James S. Soto will administer the Oath of Allegiance, and Tumacacori National Park Superintendent Bob Love will deliver the keynote address.
The NPS turns 100 this year, and in celebration, USCIS has partnered with NPS to hold more than 100 naturalization ceremonies on National Park sites during 2016. This ceremony is also part of USCIS' annual celebration of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, observed on Sept. 17, and Constitution Week, recognized this year from September 16 -23. USCIS will welcome more than 38,000 new citizens during more than 240 naturalization ceremonies during this week-long observance.
The 16 citizenship candidates originate from the following 15 countries: Albania, Australia, Bhutan, Canada, Colombia, El Salvador, India, Iraq, Mexico, Nigeria, Russia, Somalia, United Kingdom, Uruguay and Vietnam.
USCIS invites new citizens, their families and friends to share their experiences from the ceremonies via social media using the hashtag #newUScitizen.
