Volunteer Event: Cottonwood Cove Beach Cleanup and Eco-Dive, Oct 8
Celebrate Lake Mead National Recreation Area's 52nd birthday by volunteering to clean up the Cottonwood Cove area on Lake Mohave, Oct. 8. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the cleanup is from 9 a.m. -noon. Volunteers will be asked to cleanup around the boat harbor and shoreline.Divers are invited to help with an underwater cleanup. Divers must show proof of current diving certification at registration in order to participate. Forever Resorts will provide lunch and birthday cake to all registered volunteers at noon. Ranger Program: Coyotes - What You Should Know, Oct 8
Join a ranger at the Boulder Beach Amphitheater at 4 p.m. Oct. 8 to learn more about the wily and opportunistic coyote. Find out why visitors should observe coyotes from a distance during their visits to the park. For more information, call 702-293-8990.
Ranger Program: Nature's Pharmacy -Exploring the plants of the Mojave, Oct 9
Join a ranger on a stroll through the Lake Mead Visitor Center cactus gardens at 10 a.m. Oct. 9. Discover plants native to three deserts and learn about their traditional uses, as well as their relationship to the surrounding environment. For more information, call 702-293-8990.
Get Outdoors Nevada Day, Oct 15
Join rangers at Lorenzi Park 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Oct. 15 for Get Outdoors Nevada Day, a Find Your Park National Park Service centennial celebration. Organized by the Outside Las Vegas Foundation as one of Southern Nevada's largest outdoor celebrations of the year, the free event will feature more than 70 exhibitors, including vehicle displays and booths from Lake Mead and Tule Springs park rangers. Highlights also include a climbing wall, casting for a fish, archery, and kayak rolling and biking demos. Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Lake Mead Superintendent Lizette Richardson and Tule Springs Superintendent Jon Burpee will participate in the formal event at 10 a.m. where Southern Nevada's volunteers will be recognized and everyone can join in singing happy birthday to the park service. Free cake will be available for attendees, while supplies last. Free America the Beautiful annual passes will be distributed to 4th graders, active duty military and U.S. residents with permanent disabilities. Ranger Chat: Outdoor Fun-A Child's Nature Perspective, Oct 15

BBSC Pumpkinman Triathlon, Oct 22
Around 1,000 athletes will race though Lake Mead National Recreation Area Oct. 22 for the BBSC Pumpkinman Triathlon. The race has four distance options available olympic or sprint triathlon and 10k/ 5k run. The swim portion of the race takes place at Boulder Beach. Then, athletes will bike along Lakeshore Road and then climb the hill into Boulder City. Visitors to Lake Mead may experience delays. During the race, the bicycle course in Lake Mead National Recreation Area is an open road. Please use caution when driving alongside cyclists. Share the road, and do not pass in no passing zones. Cyclists are reminded that they must bike in single file on the roadways. Cycling abreast is not permitted with Lake Mead National Recreation Area. C.A.S.T. for kids, Oct 22
Nearly 200 children with disabilities will have the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing at the annual C.A.S.T. for Kids event at Las Vegas Boat Harbor Oct. 22. Halloween Dinner Cruise, Oct 30
Lake Mead Cruises is hosting a wicked waters Halloween masquerade dinner cruise Oct. 30. Enjoy a two-hour excursion aboard the Desert Princess paddlewheeler, featuring a multi-course meal. Life in Death: Day of the Dead Festival, Nov 1-2
Join park rangers for the Life in Death: Day of the Dead Festival at the Winchester Cultural Center from 5-9 p.m. Nov. 1 and 2. The free festival features displays, an art exhibit, performances, craft sales and food vendors. The event will explore cultural traditions relating to the Mexican holiday of El Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. The National Park Service will host an ofrenda to honor lives lost. Vintage Car Parade, Nov 4
Around 25 vintage vehicles from the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club will travel through Lake Mead National Recreation Area along Northshore Road Nov. 4. The vehicles that were made in the 1920s and 30s will be traveling at around 35 miles per hour. Visitors may experience delays during this permitted event.
Volunteer Program: Callville Bay Cleanup, Nov 5
Join Forever Resorts and Lake Mead National Recreation Area in a beach cleanup at Callville Bay, Nov. 5. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the cleanup is from 9 a.m. -noon. Volunteers are needed to help keep the area beautiful by picking up litter around the marina, shoreline and desert. Individuals, families and groups are welcome to participate. Callville Bay Car and Boat Show, Nov 5

Ragnar Relay, Nov 5
Around 6,000 athletes will race through Lake Mead National Recreation Area during the Ragnar Relay, Nov. 5. A portion of the race winds through Lake Mead, across the River Mountains Loop Trail and Lakeshore Road.
