BOULDER CITY, Nevada -Southern Nevada is showing off its millions of acres of public lands and outdoor recreation opportunities at the third annual Get Outdoors Nevada Day from 9 a.m. -2 p.m. Oct. 15, in Las Vegas' Lorenzi Park (Washington and Rancho).
Organized as one of the largest outdoor celebrations of the year, the free event will feature more than 70 exhibitors, live music and raffles handed out by Aimee and Brian Hammer of Hammer and Aimee Mornings on STAR 107.9.
"We're excited to celebrate the National Park Service's 100th anniversary at Get Outdoors Nevada Day to showcase how you can Find Your Park from Vegas," said Lizette Richardson, Lake Mead National Recreation Area superintendent. "Rangers will share the abundance of recreational opportunities at 'America's Most Diverse National Recreation Area' - Lake Mead - and the scientific discoveries at Southern Nevada's newest park - Tule Springs."
Park rangers will also distribute free America the Beautiful annual park passes to fourth graders, active duty military and U.S. residents with permanent disabilities.
Other event highlights include a climbing wall, casting for a fish, archery, kayak rolling and biking demos. BMX racer Ricardo Laguna, who lives in the Las Vegas Valley, will be performing bike stunts. There will be a bike valet and even an Airstream to walk through.
Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, Lake Mead Superintendent Lizette Richardson and Tule Springs Superintendent Jon Burpee will participate in the formal event at 10 a.m. where Southern Nevada's volunteers will be recognized and everyone can join in singing happy birthday to the National Park Service. Free cake will be available for attendees, while supplies last.
"This celebration highlights Nevada as a premier outdoor destination," said Mauricia Baca, executive director, Outside Las Vegas Foundation. "There truly is something for everyone in Nevada -from biking to kayaking to exploring National Parks and recreation areas."
