Patchogue, NY -The National Park Service (NPS) invites you to celebrate Bat Week at sites across Long Island. Fire Island National Seashore and Sagamore Hill National Historic Site will host special programs during Bat Week, and will participate in bat-themed celebrations nearby.
"Bats are fascinating creatures that should be celebrated," said Dalton Brauer, a Student Conservation Association intern working with the NPS to inventory and monitor bats. Annual surveys help the NPS better understand and protect bats at national parks on Long Island. "These events are a great way to celebrate the species we're working to protect," said Brauer.
Bat Week will be celebrated nationally from October 24th through the 31st, and events on Long Island will kick off this Saturday, October 22. The NPS is hosting or participating in the following Bat Week events.
