HOMESTEAD, Fla - Everglades National Park invites the public to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of Royal Palm State Park on Thursday Nov. 17, 2016. Royal Palm State Park was the first Florida State Park, established in 1916. Later, in 1947, it became the nucleus of the Everglades National Park.
Festivities will run from 10am to 3pm, as follows:
10am-11am: Ranger guided hikes to the original Royal Palm Lodge site and along the newly refurbished Anhinga Trail
11am-12pm: Speaker series featuring Everglades National Park Superintendent, Pedro Ramos; former Director of both the Florida Park Service and US National Park Service, Fran Maneila; current Director of the Florida Park Service, Donald Forgione; and current President of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, Mary Powell
1pm-2pm: Keynote Speaker, Leslie Kemp Poole, author of Saving Florida: Women's Fight for the Environment in the Twentieth Century
2pm-3pm: Ranger guided hikes to the original Royal Palm Lodge site and along the Anhinga Trail
All events are family friendly, open to the public, and will take place at the Royal Palm Visitor Center within Everglades National Park, at 40001 SR 9336, Homestead, FL 33034.
