SHARPSBURG, Md. - You can help the National Park Service (NPS) provide more convenient, safe access to key areas of Antietam National Battlefield. Please come to an open house to look at new concepts and share your ideas about what a visit may look like in the future.

In a continuing mission to preserve the place and the memory of the “bloodiest one-day battle in American history," parcels of land have been added to the national battlefield at different times, which means that key locations do not have public access and trails through the park do not connect to one another to create an intuitive, seamless experience. Based on public feedback and other considerations, the NPS will improve the tour route and stops, trails, accessibility to those with disabilities, and understanding of the battle and its legacy.
Online comments are also welcome. Please visit https://parkplanning.nps.gov/ANTICirculationPlan for more information and to submit comments. Comments will be accepted until December 5, 2016.
Public feedback will inform the park’s Visitor Access and Circulation Plan/Environmental Assessment. The plan will amend key elements of the park’s 1992 General Management Plan including visitor circulation, the visitor center area, tour stops, and trails.
