Limited Tours Offered at Wind Cave Due to Elevator Issues

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 9, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WIND CAVE NATIONAL PARK, SD - Limited cave tours are being offered at Wind Cave National Park due to elevator problems. All tours will now enter and exit the cave via the Walk-in Entrance and proceed only as far as the Post Office Room. Visitors will need to descend and climb up 155 stairs, which is equivalent to climbing a 15-story building.

Tour times remain the same, leaving the visitor center at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. but only Monday through Friday. There will be no tours on weekends and holidays. Tour sizes have been reduced from 40 people to 20 people on a tour.

It is unknown how long the elevators will be inoperable. For more information, contact the park at 605-745-4600 or follow us on Facebook.
