The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for high winds and heavy rains from Friday evening through Sunday evening. Another storm is poised to impact the region Tuesday or Wednesday. This series of systems will move through this region and include the following areas of concern:
Winds: A wind advisory is in effect for the San Francisco Bay Area for Saturday afternoon and evening. Many locations could see gusts to near 40 mph with some higher peaks and coastal areas exceeding 50 mph.
Rain: Multiple rounds of rain are forecast with the greatest amounts expected for Saturday afternoon into Monday morning. Heavy rain and strong winds could lead to local road flooding and closures, downed trees and power outages.
People can underestimate the force and power of water. A mere 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock over an adult. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away a small car, while 2 feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. It is NEVER safe to drive or walk into flood waters. If you are in a forested area, always be aware of potential hazards such as falling limbs. Stay away from coastal bluffs and surf. Conditions may be hazardous.
