The National Park Service, the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center (NAAMCC) and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will jointly sponsor the 153rd birthday celebration for Colonel Charles Young. This event will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 15th, 2017, at the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, located at 1350 Brush Row Road Wilberforce, OH 45384. This event is free and open to the public.
Mr. Kenneth Barnes, Executive Director of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will serve as the keynote speaker. Special music will be provided by Mills Lawn Elementary School’s choir from Yellow Springs, Ohio. They will perform a special arrangement of Langston Hughes Dreams. Additional remarks will be shared by Dr. Cynthia Jackson - Hammond President of Central State University, Dr. Herman Felton President of Wilberforce University, Dr. Charles Wash, Director of the National Afro- American Museum and Cultural Center, Mr. Robert Braggs Southwest Ohio Outreach Representative in the office of U.S. Senator Rob Portman, Dr. Joy Kinard Superintendent of the Charles Young Buffalo Soldiers National Monument, and other area community leaders. A reception will follow the program.
