Prescribed Burning Activity at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area
Whiskeytown National Recreation Area will plan to continue prescribed fire activities within the East Boundary Project along the Shasta Divide from April 4th through 6th, 2017. Approximately 66 acres of pine and oak woodland are planned for second prescribed burn treatment over the 3 day period. Based on weather forecasts, smoke impacts to the local area are expected to be minimal and of short duration with rain expected by late next week. The primary goal of the East Boundary Project, located above the community of Shasta, is to use prescribed fire and mechanical treatments to protect communities within the wildland urban interface with a proactive approach that recognizes fire as part of a healthy, sustainable ecosystem.
