Introduction to Orienteering at National Lakeshore

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on March 31, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Join staff and map lovers for an introduction to orienteering at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Programs will be held at the Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education on Sunday, April 9, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and Saturday, April 29, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Come learn how to navigate with a map and compass. Leave your GPS at home, because this program is going to teach you how to use the terrain around you and the direction you are facing to get to where you want to go. Bring a friend, and be prepared to help each other complete a basic orienteering course.

The Paul H. Douglas Center for Environmental Education is at 100 North Lake Street, about one mile north of U.S. Highway 12 in the Miller neighborhood of Gary. For more information on this or other programs at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, call 219-395-1882 or visit our website at www.nps.gov/indu and our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/IndianaDunesNL.
