MILL VALLEY, CA - The National Park Service has released a draft environmental assessment for the rehabilitation of aging water and wastewater lines serving Muir Woods National Monument. The environmental assessment is open for public review and comment through May 5 at https://www.parkplanning.nps.gov/muwo_water_wastewater.
The Muir Woods Water and Wastewater Service Lines Rehabilitation Project would ensure safe and reliable transport of water and wastewater to park facilities, including restrooms, the visitor center and the concessions building. Components of the current water and wastewater lines are showing signs of corrosion and structural deterioration.
The new infrastructure would meet all modern code requirements for fire protection flow demands and potable water quality and storage. The project also would provide stronger natural resource protections by relocating wastewater infrastructure out of the Redwood Creek corridor.
As the National Park Service enters its second century, a family of projects is underway to improve the visitor experience at Muir Woods and ensure the health of the Redwood Creek watershed into the future.
A companion project to enhance salmon habitat and replace the park's aging footbridges is the subject of a public meeting on Tuesday, April 11th, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Tam Valley Community Center, 203 Marin Avenue, in Mill Valley.
