San Juan, Puerto Rico- San Juan National Historic Site will be closed effective today, Sunday, April 30th at 1:00p.m. “The decision to temporarily close the park is out of abundance of care for our team members and visitors during the May Day event. We want to ensure that no one is placed into a position where they will be stuck in extreme traffic or distressed while providing their public service or attempting to visit their park" said Superintendent Randy Lavasseur. The planned May Day event will affect Old San Juan and the roadways into and out of the greater San Juan area; this decision was not made lightly.
The concerns surrounding the upcoming May Day event will create interruption to visitor’s services and the protection of the resource, serves as determining factors for this difficult decision. We strive in our commitment to our resource and the people within; they are two of our most honored values. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we encourage you to visit us gain at a later time. We expect to resume operations Tuesday, May 2nd.
