Former Congressman Clem Miller continues to be remembered with the 30th anniversary of the dedication of the Clem Miller Environmental Education Center. It was Representative Miller's leadership in the creation of Point Reyes National Seashore in 1962 and his vision, commitment, and tenacity which ultimately saved this peninsula from massive subdivisions and development.
On May 2, 1987, the Clem Miller Environmental Education Center was rebuilt and dedicated on the site of a former Quonset hut and cabins were built for overnight stays accommodating 80 people. The facility now hosts over 2,500 school children each year and is operated by the Point Reyes National Seashore Association. Section 7 of (Oct. 20, 1976) designated "the principal environmental education center within the Seashore as the Clem Miller Environmental Education Center." Clem Miller took immense satisfaction in knowing that future generations could find renewal of body and spirit along this wild coastline he helped save for future generations.
In October 1962, just three weeks after President John F. Kennedy signed the into law, Clem Miller died in an airplane accident. He was 46.
