INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL LAKESHORE: Join a ranger at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore’s Heron Rookery on Sunday, May 14, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm for a two-hour wildflower hike to see what woodland flowers are blooming. The Heron Rookery is perhaps the best location in the region to see spring wildflowers. Celebrate part of Mother’s Day in your national park while enjoying nature.
The hike starts from the Heron’s Rookery’s east parking lot, which is located at 1336 North County Road 600E in Michigan City. The GPS coordinates are 41.626948, -86.951566 (decimal degrees). The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is one of 417 units of the National Park System ranging from Yellowstone to the Statue of Liberty. Located in Northwest Indiana, the park includes 15 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and 15,000 acres of biodiverse beaches, woods, prairies, and marshes. Up to 2 million visitors come to the Indiana Dunes each year.
