July Public Programs at War in the Pacific National Historical Park
July 8, Saturday: 9 am at Asan Beach - “Keep Guam Beautiful"
This community cleanup will take place at Asan Beach - a former WWII invasion site. Cold water in coolers, protective gloves, and trash bags will be provided. Please bring refillable water bottles and wear closed-toe shoes, hats, and sunscreen. All ages are welcome. Service learning credit is available. For more information, contact e-mail us.
July 16, Sunday: 2 pm at the Visitor Center - “Science Sunday"
Science Sunday features current research projects happening right here on Guam and the Micronesian region. Open to all ages. No pre-registration is required. For more information on this event, call 333-4050 or email gureefmonitoring@gmail.com.
July 21, Friday: 8:00 am at Asan Beach - Morning Colors on Liberation Day
Park Rangers will be performing a colors ceremony at the flags at 8:00 am in honor of Liberation Day. Join us at the beach where the 3rd Marine Division came ashore on July 21, 1944. At this honoring ceremony, Park Rangers will be available after the ceremony to describe the invasion which happened 72 years ago on this very spot.
July 22, Saturday: 2 pm at the Visitor Center - “History Revealed"
Join us for a two-part program dedicated to the Liberation of Guam. A presentation entitled, “The Epic Chronology of Guam's Liberation from the Japanese," in the auditorium at 2 pm. The indoor presentation will be followed by a historical hike up the Asan Ridge. Visitors will be responsible for their transportation from the Visitor Center to Asan Beach. July 22, Saturday: 3:30 pm at Asan Beach - “Asan Ridge Hike"
Join us for a historical hike up the Asan Ridge. Follow the footsteps of the Marines who stormed Asan Beach on July 21, 1944. Please wear hiking shoes, sun protection, and bring plenty of water. Meet by the restrooms. The hike is relatively easy, suitable for ages 10 and up. The hike is preceded by a presentation at the Visitor Center. Please see above. (1 hour)
