Artillery Program at Chickamauga Battlefield July 29

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 19, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Fort Oglethorpe, GA: On Saturday, July 29, Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present artillery programs near the King Monument, on Battleline Road, in Chickamauga Battlefield. Programs will begin at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:30 pm, 2:30 pm, and 3:30 pm and will last approximately 30 minutes. Visitors should pick up a map to the program location inside the visitor center or to drive to Tour Stop 2 and follow the event signs for parking.

On Sept. 20, 1863, Confederates under the command of General Leonidas Polk attacked the Union position along Battleline Road. Using the elevated ridge, and supported by artillery, Union forces repulsed the attacking Confederates as they advanced through the open glades. These park conducted programs will highlight the role of cannon in repulsing the Confederate attack.
