The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 16, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

WELLFLEET, Mass. - If you'll be on the Outer Cape during the solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21, join Cape Cod National Seashore rangers for a special eclipse program at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham from 1:30 to 4:00 pm.

The free program will begin with a live feed projection of the eclipse as it passes across the US. Track the eclipse along the path of totality, and see what a total solar eclipse looks like. There will be children’s activities and information on what an eclipse is and how it occurs. At 2:30, head outside to view the 2:48 pm 60% eclipse. Certified eclipse viewing glasses and pinhole projectors will be provided for safe viewing. Following the eclipse, write a note or draw a picture to include in a time capsule that will be opened during the next full solar eclipse in April 2024.

IF YOU GO: Salt Pond Visitor Center is located at 50 Nauset Road at the intersection of Route 6 in Eastham, and can be reached at 508-255-3421. The center is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with staff to assist with activity planning. Visit the museum, view a park film, enjoy panoramic views of Salt Pond and Nauset Marsh, and shop in the gift and bookstore featuring national seashore-related items.
