Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area may implement all of the pile burns, and up to 3 of the following controlled burns during the fall of 2017.
Controlled burns may include:
* Rickey #1, 30 acres, near Rickey Point, Stevens County
* Rickey #3, 25 acres near Rickey Point, Stevens County
* Kettle River, 18 acres near Kettle River Campground, Stevens County
* Haag Cove, 21 acres near Haag Cove Campground, Ferry County
Pile burns may include:

Log Yard, 14 acres near Kettle Falls, Stevens County
*
Daisy, 12 acres near the Daisy Boat Launch, Stevens County
*
River Way, 8 acres south of Camp Na-Bor-Lee, Stevens County
*
Hunters, 7 acres near Hunters Campground, Stevens County
*
One large pile at each of the following locations: Stevens County -Evans, Kettle Falls, Gifford, Lincoln County -Fort Spokane, Keller Ferry, and Spring Canyon
The goal of these prescribed burns is to decrease forest fuel loads adjacent to campgrounds, residences and structures. Benefits will include:
* Reduced small fuels, which are primary fire carriers,
* Decreased risk and intensity of uncontrolled wildfires,
* Increased nutrients for trees and understory,
* Increased understory plant diversity and natural reseeding of trees.
Safe and favorable weather conditions may occur from the beginning of September through October. Pile ignitions may occur through December. Ignitions should be completed in one day at each unit. Public and firefighter safety are always the highest priority in all fire management activities. Project areas will be carefully monitored until they are fully extinguished. Residual smoke may be observed for up to two weeks post ignition.
