Timucuan Preserve to Host Science & History Symposium on January 26th

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Dec. 20, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve is hosting the Seventh Annual Science & History Symposium on Friday, Jan. 26, 2018 at the Florida Park Service’s Ribault Club on Fort George Island in Jacksonville, Florida. Researchers, students and community members are welcome to attend and learn more about the exciting research projects occurring in the Timucuan Preserve. A variety of topics ranging from scenic vistas and archeology projects to mosquito populations and bottlenose dolphins will be presented. This year we will have a featured speaker, local meteorologist Mike Buresh. The Timucuan Science & History Symposium is sponsored by the National Park Service, the Florida Park Service, and the Timucuan Parks Foundation.

Superintendent Chris Hughes is excited about this year’s symposium, “Among the outstanding research projects being reported, presentations will shed light on how local changes in climatic conditions are affecting our coastal areas and how we hope to respond in order to protect valuable natural and cultural resources. As always we hope to inspire students and young professional resource managers and scientists to face the stewardship challenges of the present and future. The 2018 Symposium will feature the two recipients of Timucuan Student Research awards administered by the Timucuan Park Foundation and generous sponsors of the symposium."

Early Bird registration runs from now until December 31 at $35. The registration rises to $45 on January 1. Student registration is $15 from now until registration closes on January 19th. Lunch is included with registration. More information on the Symposium and the online link to registration can be found at:
