Free Entrance to Point Park for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 15, 2018

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Jan. 8, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Fort Oglethorpe, GA: Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park is waiving the entrance fee to Point Park, atop Lookout Mountain, on January 15 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

This would be a great opportunity to visit and contemplate the reasons soldiers struggled along the mountain slopes during the “Battle Above the Clouds" in 1863 and why 100 years later, in 1963, Dr. King reminded us to “let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee."

The National Park Service announced four fee free entrance days in 2018:

* January 15 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

* April 21 - First Day of National Park Week

* September 22 - National Public Lands Day

* November 11 - Veterans Day
