ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT COMPLETED FOR PROPOSED LAND EXCHANGE AT TULE SPRINGS FOSSIL BEDS NATIONAL MONUMENT
NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nevada - Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument has completed the Environmental Assessment, required under the National Environmental Policy Act, on a proposed exchange of easements between the National Park Service and the City of North Las Vegas at Tule Springs Fossil Beds National Monument.
The proposed exchange has completed public review and is endorsed by local elected officials. A Finding of No Significant Impact was signed by the Acting Regional Director, Pacific West Regional Office, National Park Service, Dec. 18.
There are three parties to the proposed exchange: the National Park Service, City of North Las Vegas and the residential developer who will use the easements acquired by the city.
As proposed, the city agrees to convey to the National Park Service the roadway portion of a 20± acre right-of-way that crosses Tule Springs in exchange for three easements for roadway and/or drainage and utility purposes, totaling approximately 5.6 acres.
The proposed exchange also includes a trail, a portion of which would be paid for and constructed by the developer, to encourage visitors to access the monument in a manner that will protect park resources.
