Discover and Help the Wild Birds in Your Community
Hopewell Culture National Historical Park invites you to join park staff and volunteers for The Great Backyard Bird Count. Each year thousands of people around the world, and hundreds of people in Ohio, take part in this event. People of all ages and skill levels are welcome to learn about the birds wintering in their communities. This fun and educational event is free to the public.
The program will take place on February 19th starting at 9:00 am at the Mound City Group Visitor Center. A short introduction will be given, followed by a short bird hike. If you have binoculars and bird guides, bring them with you. A limited amount of binoculars will be available for loan, as well as Ohio bird guides and goody bags for our younger birders. Data from the count will be sent to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and will help scientists gain a better understanding of the distribution and abundance of birds.
