Until late February, visitors to Fort Stanwix National Monument have the opportunity to see projects completed by 7th grade students at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Middle School.
History teacher Todd Donnelly worked with his students and fellow teachers in the school to create a unit about Fort Stanwix while including language arts, science, and other subjects the students are studying. “The students are very excited to have their work on display," said Donnelly. “They worked hard, and the projects reflect that."
Examples of student work on display in the Marinus Willett Center include journals based on American Revolutionary War experiences and 3-D models comparing cell structures to military fortification structures, a project developed by science teacher Nora Burnop. Each project is unique and demonstrates the skills and knowledge that the students gained through these assignments.
The public may view the projects any time during regular operating hours of the park through February 24.
Fort Stanwix National Monument is open Tuesday-Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission to the park is free. For more information about upcoming events please call the park at (315)338-7730.
