A Glimpse into the History of the National Park Service

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 8, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

With the passage of the Organic Act on Aug. 25, 1916, the newly established National Park Service would become the steward of some of the nation’s most treasured sites. More than century since its establishment, the National Park Service continues to preserve the natural and historic identity of the United States. Today, there are 417 national parks, monuments, and sites encompassing more than 48 million acres including your backyard National Park - Fort Union National Monument. Join Ranger Megan Urban, and get a glimpse into the history and mission of the National Park Service. This program will be held at the Las Vegas City Museum at 727 Grand Avenue in Las Vegas, New Mexico on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 7:00PM.

This program is free in partnership with the Las Vegas City Rough Rider Museum.
