Early settlements in what would become the Southwestern United States were far away from the protection and supplies of the more populated areas of the Mexican interior. From livestock to farms, the careful management of food and materials was not only critical for survival in the often arid country, but also for the establishment of a cultural identity that continues to thrive today. Join Jerry Kerr of El Rancho de las Golondrinas and discover how these communal settlements and their adapted management of crops and livestock would define Southwestern agriculture for generations.
