The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 2, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

On Saturday Oct. 20, 2018, Thomas Stone National Historic Site will host a nighttime stargazing event from 6:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Visitors can come out to view stars, planets and constellations through the powerful telescopes of the Southern Maryland Astronomical Society. There is no admission cost to either event.

“Thomas Stone National Historic Site offers the perfect environment to view the night sky," says park superintendent Melissa Cobern. “Although it is only 30 miles from our nation’s capital, it feels as if you are out in the middle of nowhere."

The park will be open for this event from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. Additional information about Thomas Stone National Historic Site or this event is available by phone at 804-224-1732, Facebook or Twitter or visit our park website at www.nps.gov/thst.
