Winter Days and Hours of Operation at the Calumet Visitor Center 2019-20

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 21, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Keweenaw National Historical Park will reduce the hours and days of operation at the Calumet Visitor

Center in October. The facility will be open Wednesday - Saturday from October 1 - 20. After this date,

the facility will be open on Friday and Saturday from October 21 - May 25. The hours on Friday and

Saturday will be from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The Calumet Visitor Center is free and offers three floors of interactive exhibits about the history of

copper mining in the Calumet region. Short films, audio-visual programs, and museum objects reveal the

area’s geology and history. Exhibits reveal Calumet’s place on the national stage of copper production,

and include the individual voices of local miners, teachers, and nurses who lived Calumet’s copper

mining history. It’s also a great place to start your Keweenaw adventure by mapping out the 21 official

Keweenaw Heritage Sites, located from Ontonagon to Copper Harbor. Collectively, these sites offer

infinite possibilities for exploring the Keweenaw history in the places where it happened. Park Rangers

are on hand and happy to help you learn more about the region and plan your visit.
